Getting a Youth Soccer Team off the Ground
While not as popular in the States as in certain European territories, soccer is still enjoyed by many people on the west coast. Maybe you were watching one of the many soccer sports channels on your directv washington service when you suddenly rediscovered your love of the sport. Ever find yourself enjoying a game of soccer on the television and wishing you could be a part of the action? Why not coach a youth soccer team?
Organizations like AYSO are always looking for qualified volunteers to head-up their many teams, but it isn’t as easy as you might think. You must have the patience and self-control not only to be a teacher but a leader when it comes to these children, and understanding the sport and the dynamics of coaching wouldn’t hurt either.
What about jerseys and other gear?
If you work with AYSO then there are typically plans to cover these expenses but there are also plenty of sports utility stores you can turn to, as well.
One of the important things to remember about coaching a youth soccer team is that it is very much a full-time job. You need to love working with children as much as you love soccer, but if you can manage to balance the two then coaching a team can be a rewarding experience – both for you and the kids.
